Merit Scholarships All merit scholarships are automatically renewed each academic year so long as the recipient remains in good academic standing. To remain in good academic standing, the recipient must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.000. The determination of whether a recipient is in good academic standing for scholarship purposes is made following the spring semester of each academic year.
Merit Scholarship Reductions and Revocations The Admissions and Scholarships Committee has the discretion to reduce or revoke the merit scholarships of recipients no longer in good academic standing following the spring semester of each academic year. Additionally, the Committee has the discretion to reduce or revoke the merit scholarships of recipients who have violated the Code of Academic Integrity or the Student Code of Conduct.
Merit Scholarship Increases Following the spring semester of each academic year, qualifying returning second-, third-, and fourth-year students may apply for an increase in their merit scholarship. To qualify, a student must have completed at least 19 credit hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.400.
However, funding for merit scholarship increases is limited and meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee that an increase will be awarded. The Admissions and Scholarships Committee relies on a number of factors in awarding merit scholarship increases. These include the information contained in the recipient’s application, the amount originally awarded, and academic achievement.
Recipients who have had their merit scholarships reduced or revoked for falling out of good academic standing may apply to have a portion of their initial scholarship amount reinstated if they have a cumulative grade point average of 2.200 following the spring semester of the academic year following the reduction or revocation. Applications for reinstatement of a merit scholarship will be decided using the same application and at the same time as applications for scholarship increases.
